Over 250,000 signatures to demand a Columbia - England replay

Colombia crashed out when England defeated them on penalties this week
Angry Colombia fans have launched a petition demanding the 2018 World Cup last 16 clash against England is replayed following the Three Lions’ dramatic penalty shoot-out victory.

Supporters have called on FIFA to review a number of incidents in the game – the award of a penalty to the Three Lions and the decision to disallow a goal by Carlos Bacca because two balls were in play.

More than 250,000 people (as of Thursday evening) had put their signatures to the petition.
Colombian fans argue that England were awarded their second-half penalty for “a non-existent foul”.

The petition calls for FIFA “to review these two actions, in order to set a precedent for fair play”.

England took the lead on the night through Kane’s 57th-minute penalty, after former Aston Villa midfielder Carlos Sanchez was deemed to have illegally wrestled him to the ground at a corner.

Colombia coach Jose Pekerman argued Southgate’s side “fall in the box” and blamed “confusion” over the amount of physical contact tolerated at corners.

Argentina legend Diego Maradona also raged at the decision and referee Geiger’s performance, calling the result a “monumental robbery” in an extraordinary rant on Venezuelan TV.

FIFA responded to Maradona’s comments with a statement that said it “strongly rebukes the criticism of the performance of the match officials which it considers to have been positive in a tough and highly emotional match”.
