Danny's Essay: My unforgettable trip to Hoi An

Last Friday, I joined my classmates to go to Hoi An, an ancient city located in Quang Nam Province in Vietnam. From Da Nang, we began our journey at 8 am after getting on a crowded bus in front of our school.

Our first stop was the center of the Hoi An ancient town, where we were given some precious moments to talk to foreign tourists. Of course, I felt very nervous to talk to them, but I was also very excited.

After practicing some English with some friendly Westerners, we headed to our next destination- the Thanh Ha Pottery Village, only 3 Km to the West of the ancient quarter.

In Thanh Ha Pottery Village I saw all kinds of pottery products include bowls, jars, pots, animal shapes, in all forms and colors. We came here to know about the traditional clay mixing, burning and baking techniques. This was my favorite part of the trip because I had felt so amazed to learn how to make my first-ever pottery product, a little bowl.

Then, for our lunch, we traveled to Cua Dai Beach about 4 km North-east of Hoi An Town. I was very hungry so I ate a lot of rice with zucchini soup, fried fishes, stirred crab claw herbs, and boiled Vietnamese glory-morning vegetables.

After having our enormous lunch, we visited Tra Que Vegetable Village, a location between the old town of Hoi An and An Bang beach. For the first time in my life, I was able to see how the farmers grew vegetables in their own ways. No chemical or toxic were used in the plant growing process. That sounded so organic! The local farmers also showed us how to make rice pan cakes and rice papers and then ate them with local vegetables.

At 5:15 pm, we took our bus to go back to Da Nang, ending an unforgettable journey in our memory.
