Since the beginning of human tribes, women were always in charge of maintaining the well-being and stability of the family. Traditionally, women were only allowed to do housework and take care of their children. In our modern society, women have more freedom than they used to, but they still face a lot of challenges when they want to pursue their careers. In my opinion, modern beauty standards promote for women who are beautiful, strong and financially independent.
So many times, I witnessed my mom was doing all the housework while my dad just sat on his couch and watched the television. No one told me this was wrong and I grew up accepting it.
However, now I think so differently. I want to become a knowledgeable women in future. I want to be able to take care of myself and know how to balance work and family.
I admire my mother so much because she always knows how to manage her personal finance.
She earns a fortune by herself and spends a lot money and energy to raise her three children.
She was busy working all day. She takes care of everything, her business and our family.
Consequently, she did not have time to take care of herself. She is getting older everyday and does not pay attention about her appearance. This caused the ending of my parents' marriage.
No matter what happens, my mother will always have her place in my heart. I often share my admiration of my mom to my closest friend Thao, who is also a big fan of her own mom.
Thao's mom is a self-reliant woman who knows how to make people around her happy. Thao said her mom - Mrs. Van, earned a lot money for the family. Although she is very busy doing her business, Van still can manage to keep a work-life balance with her confidence and her wide knowledge about people, culture, and business etiquette.
Listening to Thao talking about her mom, I realize I want to be a modern mother like Mrs. Van. I would like to be solid in order to help my husband and children in the future.
A modern woman has a diverse lifestyle. She does not limit her thinking inside the box. She walks her out of her comfort zone and accepts every challenges. Her perception of beauty is not constrained by dogmatic and old-fashioned rules of appropriate women's behaviors adopted by the Confucianism.
For modern women, knowledge helps them to live in harmony with the others. Nowadays, many confident and active women achieve high positions in companies or in political systems. So I think, in general, new standards of beauty refer to the quest for beauty with brains.
